“I just want a good, simple negative energy” are the words from global punk rock icon Iggy Pop as he describes his intentions when designing his first range of clothing. The 67 year old as we discover in the video below proves to be more than just a vocalist – he has been enlisted by iconic spiced rum brand Sailor Jerry to bring forth ‘The Flash Collection’!
Following previous years’ predecessors he seems well placed to represent the brand, following the animated music project Gorillaz, and Paul Simonon of The Clash. His collection consists of super limited run of 50 hand-signed and numbered denim vests (what we might call a ‘waist coat’ in UK), as well as a leather belt and a hand-cast brass buckle. These are all topped off with some awesome sets of embroidered patches, which you have to see to truly appreciate!
1999 was the year and the city was Philadelphia, that the the Sailor Jerry’s clothing line was born – set up by the fans who wanted to ensure the tattoo artist’s legacy lived on… and it looks as though they have certainly achieved their aim!
“It was only through research for this collection that I realised how much we had in common, from our mutual love of art and Hawaii in the 70’s through to hosting our own radio shows. I hope that my Flash Collection is one that Norman would be proud of and will help to keep that legend alive”.
This isn’t the first time that Iggy and Sailor Jerry have crossed paths! His track, ‘TV Eye’, which was made when he a part of The Stooges, can be heard in their “Outside The Lines” campaign.
