With Snoop Dogg’s 14th studio album Coolaid just days from release another taster has been unveiled in the form of Super Crip making an appearance on Dr. Dre’s The Pharmacy radio show. For his newest music Snoop Dogg has announced something of a return to his g-funk Death Row roots which is clear just from the cover art harking back to debut album Doggystyle.
For Super Crip this West Coast sound comes courtesy of Just Blaze who lays on a selection of synths which build in intensity throughout constantly switching the track up, all of this being aided by the addition of some heavy drums beats hitting after the first minute. Lyrically Snoop continues to rock the throwback vibe employing his trademark smooth flows to the beat with several call back lines to previous classic tracks.
After various experiments with different genres in recent years Coolaid marks a return to some of Snoop’s roots and with a selection of fellow West Coast heavy weights joining the track list including Too $hort and E-40 could prove a hit with fans of the original g funk sound.
