Video: Black Chronical - Aesthetics ft Hybrid Freqs

Wow! This track is an absolute must! Hip hop personified. Melodic soulful production from Hybrid Freqs, the journey has a feel of nostalgic, ambient, melancholy putting you in dreamstate - perfect for the content. Hailing from Deptford in SE London, Blakk Chronical says exactly what many feel in these current times in a very mature, conscious, but not pushy way.

The message is as potent and informative as a Public Enemy or Dead Prez track but without race being mentioned or the need to start picketing. Anyone that likes tracks with a powerful conscious message will love this, like DMT for the ear with guaranteed no negative side effects! Taking the word aesthetics and using it to explain the way the world is becoming so shallow is pure genius and executed excellently. Understanding your surroundings and what you choose to surround yourself with are more important than many realise and something easily taken for granted.

“I drink from the fountain of life, All I see is energy, now I see your intentions are pure, your not my enemy”.

Video: CyHi The Prynce - Nu Africa

With politics becoming the new trending topic since the recent Presidential election, a number of rappers have spoken publicly stating their strong opinions through music. It's refreshing to hear to say the least, especially with such varied opinions.

CyHi The Prynce is the next artist to make sure his voice is heard. The latest cut off his forthcoming album 'No Dope' on Sunday just screams "reality check" as CyHi highlights the issues within society, not only from an American standpoint but also the standpoint of the Motherland, Africa.

From a personal perspective, it's great to hear CyHi The Prynce back on the Good Music band wagon, and if this S1 produced track is anything to go by, we could be in store for another notch on already impressive Discography Belt.

Review: Maniac - Homecoming EP

Review: Maniac - Homecoming EP

Review by William Bunch

Maniac is back. His aptly named ‘Homecoming’ EP is his first fully solo expedition, since doing 6 years of a 14 year sentence for conspiracy to murder. With prior productions working on tracks with Wiley, JME and Chip he’s a producer many heads will be familiar with, known for his otherworldly sonics and maximal sound. For the new comers to the scene, however, ‘Homecoming’ will serve as an introduction to the Maniac sound.

The question is how has that sound fared since in the time he’s been away, put on a Maniac track from any of his pre-incarceration releases and it will still bang. Tracks from his instrumental album ‘New Age Grime’, ‘Salt Fish’ EP or ‘Devil’ EP are filled with an inescapable energy. Post-incarceration his release with fellow E3 resident Maxsta and Manchester’s Boothroyd stands as one of the best Grime release to of dropped in recent years, and features some of Maniac’s best and most accomplished productions to date. In the 6 years or so he was away, there have also been numerous wannabe-Maniac producers that have tried to mimic his style that have fallen short. So it comes as a surprise that ‘Homecoming’ feels like it owes more to producers like Rude Kid, Filthy Gears, Oddz and Swifta Beater than to his own inimitable style.

Opening ‘Homecoming’, ‘Go’ is a solid trap beat that gives way to rising synths and square wave drones. It’s perfect for MCs looking for a track to showcase their lyrics but can easily be filed with the hundred or so other beats that came out on this vibe in the last year. ‘Track and Field’ finds itself run out with an over familiar eski vibe and choral vocals, a la Swifta’s Choir Gang, and ‘Victoria Park’ is straight up 8 bar grime. While 8-bar grime can thrive off it’s repetitiveness causing devastation with both MCs and the crowd,  here Victoria Park lacks the rawness to keep you listening.

Mixtape: Hashfingers - Elsewhere LP

Mixtape: Hashfingers - Elsewhere LP

Bradford beat maker Hash Finger returns from nowhere with his fresh instrumental LP Elsewhere. For boom-bap connoisseurs, this is a delightfully tasty serving of samples, scratches and beats.

Released on February 24th, this is his 3rd album for Headcount Records. The 16-track LP, like all of Hashfinger's work, leaves no room for vocalists or rappers because every moment the album is your “journey into the Elsewhere”.

It’s no surprise HASH has spent the last few years on the road touring and collecting dusty samples from his travels across Europe and The Middle East. The album depicts an exploration of expansive Arabian deserts and a man’s mission on this big blue planet. Enough describing, listen and love.

Video: Tha 4orce - Wild Wind That Blows ft. Cyclonious

Video: Tha 4orce - Wild Wind That Blows ft. Cyclonious

A golden age style boom bap track Wild Wind That Blows is the third taster of Tha force’s upcoming album Setting Standards. Keeping production duties on point Tha 4orce lays on a rich opening of jazzy brass before kicking in with head nodding percussion, all presented with a warm analogue feel right down to the record scratched outro.

Teaming up with guest MC Cyclonious the same integrity is kept lyrically with plenty of hard hitting questions around society, power and perspective.

Keep an eye out for Setting Standards dropping this spring.

Video: Faze Miyake Ft Merky Ace & AJ Tracey - None of That

Video: Faze Miyake Ft Merky Ace & AJ Tracey - None of That

The name might not be as familiar as the major names in grime yet, but the music he provides for sure is - just check the credentials and the company he keeps to know that he has been a force to be reckoned with, ever since the release of Lord of the Mics anthem back in 2011!

Sonically, ‘None Of That’ expands on the widescreen, booming club sounds that defined Faze’s debut album, although also roots itself in his early grime foundations; six years since his breakthrough, he remains a go-to producer for some of grime’s most influential lyricists.

Faze Miyake released his latest EP titled 'N.O.T' on the 9th March via Rinse. The Project itself shows off Faze's diversity as an Artist, hopping from tracks like 'None of That' to a Jungle-themed Outro titled 'Nightmare'.

Review: Young Roddy - Hood Gospel Mixtape

Review: Young Roddy - Hood Gospel Mixtape

Young Roddy, the Louisiana rapper, has just released his first tape of 2017 and it’s VITAL for your summer driving playlist.

Hood Gospel is a relaxing dose of old school soul and disco sampling on modern g-star rap. Hinting at sounds like a mixture of Quasimoto and Currensy, his flow is versatile and delivers hits quicker than getting jumped in the ends.

From the top; every bar wakes your visual mind with a social broadcast of the current state of his ends.

New Kickz is my jewel out of the tape. It deals with struggles of being the lowest in society and describing those niceties we deserve after hard work. Love to “the 9 to 5 workers flipping burgers”, he says.

Then the next couple tracks on the tape just carry you on a vibe of head nodding beats, filled with emotions of those living the real life of those in the States deep South. It's just straight up, up-lifting hiphop with ode’s to a man’s mantra of climbing the industry swell as property ladder.

House of Grae - These Days

House of Grae - These Days

These Days is a 2000 and something British neo-noir street tale written and recorded by House of Grae, from a story by Grae and Danny Gold.

Set on the East side of the Thames, where the seeds of life ambitions intersect with a raw, organic, yet impatient group of youths who fantasize and live on a dangerous set of rules, which can only lead to a backdrop of consequences that demand a high price for such a lifestyle.

This short story gives you an insight into the puzzled life and times of a generation caught in the crossfire of the inner city's hustle and the need to make it big.

This track is as smooth as it gets, as a Music Fan, you can just sit down, close your eyes and zone out to the harmonies and unfiltered lyrics.
